Broadway hit tick, tick… BOOM! premieres in Belgium, spotlighting local talent
The Bridge Theatre proudly announces the Belgian premiere of tick, tick… BOOM!, the raw, urgent, and deeply human musical by Jonathan Larson, the visionary creator of RENT.
Set in New York in the 1990s, the show tells the story of Jon, a composer on the verge of turning 30, torn between his job as a waiter, writing a musical he hopes will change everything, and the pressures of love, ambition, and life choices. As the clock ticks, Jon must decide: risk it all for his dream or throw in the towel.
A Belgian link in an international production
With tick, tick… BOOM!, The Bridge Theatre brings Jonathan Larson’s iconic musical to Belgium for the very first time. This raw and urgent coming-of-age story of a young composer in 1990s New York comes to Brussels with a major role for local talent.
Brussels-born Djavan van de Fliert takes on the lead role of Jon. After graduating from the prestigious Arts Educational Schools in London and receiving a nomination for Best Professional Debut at the WhatsOnStage Awards (for Frozen The Musical, West End), he now returns to his birthplace with tick, tick… BOOM!.
Renowned Belgian pianist and conductor Pietro Ramman serves as the production’s musical director. A graduate of the Royal Flemish Conservatory, with more than 100 productions to his name (Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, Rent), he brings exceptional expertise to this Belgian premiere.
Last but not least, the sound design is led by Vincent Debongnie, a well-known Belgian sound designer with over 30 years of experience in musical theatre and live productions. He has worked on major shows like Les Misérables, West Side Story, and Come from Away. Since 2020, he has been the sound designer for the Bruxellons! festival, also contributing to Studio 100 productions and teaching sound in musical theatre in Belgium.
Under the direction of Ewan Jones and with lighting design by Olivier Award-winner Ben Jacobs, this promises to be an absolute must-see premiere in Brussels. With its thrilling rock score and Larson’s unmistakable voice, tick, tick… BOOM! is an exhilarating and emotional ride, pulling the audience into the intensity of chasing dreams, balancing on the edge of breakthrough or breakdown.
